What was Havering College looking for?

With over 16,000 students enrolling each year, Havering College was looking to update their Internet Protocol (IP) based security system to maintain a safe, secure environment and improve their registration process. Their legacy CCTV system had become dated and they were having problems with continuity of coverage and low frame rates. They wanted a company who understood their sector and had the capability to ensure that the new access control and CCTV systems could run over their existing Wide Area Network (WAN). They also wanted to interface with their Oracle based student registration system.

How did we help?

Trough our experience in implementing large IP systems, we recommended the JANUS access control and DVTel CCTV systems. We worked closely with the college to minimise the impact on their activities scheduling major work over the holiday period.  We installed 100 cameras and over 100 access control points. The system allowed them to issue personalised smart cards to their students giving them access to buildings and allowing them to use facilities such as vending machines and photocopiers.

The results...

The streamlined student registration process removed data duplication saving them time and money. The college can now monitor who’s on campus and visitors can be issued temporary passes that are reclaimed on exit. CCTV performance has improved and the new system can be expanded to meet future needs.
