overview

This new approach brings together 1,500 pupils of all abilities, aged from 2 to 19 years. The schools involved include, Haughton Community School, Springfield Primary School and Beaumont Hill Technology College, providing pupils with 'effective inclusion' and access to all areas of the curriculum, within an integrated village environment.

It has been important for us to work with the schools, students and teachers, to engender a sense of a village community on this site.

key successes

Reducing the amount of energy we consume is extremely important to us, so we closely monitor our consumption throughout the year. To encourage energy awareness at Darlington, there is an energy display in the reception, indicating the amount of energy produced by the solar panels. We use combined heat and power (CHP) which, to date, has saved over 40 tonnes of carbon dioxide - the equivalent to 6,200 mature trees.  We also promote recycling around all the schools, and are working on ‘sector -shutdown’ scenarios for weekends and school holidays with the Local Authority.
